Ο Σάμιουελ Μπέκετ (αγγλ.Samuel Barclay Beckett)
(13/5/1906-22/12/1989) ήταν Ιρλανδός λογοτέχνης,
ποιητής και θεατρικός συγγραφέας. Το έργο του είναι βασικά μινιμαλιστικό,
και σύμφωνα με ορισμένους ερμηνευτές, βαθιά απαισιόδοξο για την ανθρώπινη φύση. Η απαισιοδοξία αυτή αντανακλάται από την εκτενή και περίεργη αίσθηση του χιούμορ στο έργο του, καθώς και από το γεγονός ότι η περιγραφή των εμποδίων στην ανθρώπινη ζωή εξυπηρετεί την επιθυμία του Μπέκετ να δείξει ότι το "ταξίδι" είναι που αξίζει, παρά τις δυσκολίες του.
Θεωρείται ο κυριοτερος εκπρόσωπος του θεάτρου του παραλόγου.
